The status logo colours

A small DashKeep logo appears in the bottom-right corner of the camera’s screen, drawn over the live view. Its tint shows the camera’s state at a glance, without opening any menu. The default state, with the location marked:

Cameras without a screen, like the VS1, never show the logo. See cameras without a screen for how to read the same information on those models.

The vehicle isn’t moving and the camera isn’t recording. White is the normal state while parked: before a trip, at a stop, or overnight. Nothing is wrong. The camera is on and ready, it just has nothing to do.

White logo

Green only appears while the car is moving, the camera is recording, and it has a recent GPS fix. Everything is working exactly as it should while you drive.

Green logo

The car is moving and GPS is live, but the camera isn’t recording video. Check that the camera’s own recording isn’t paused.

Magenta logo

The camera is recording, but it has lost its GPS fix. Footage still uploads, but trips lose the map and speed data until the fix comes back. This happens indoors, in tunnels, and in dense cities.

Purple logo

You’re parked outside every home zone you configured. Your zones mark where a known Wi-Fi network is in range. There’s none here, and DashKeep won’t use Wi-Fi outside a zone. Uploads wait until the camera is back in a zone. Yellow isn’t an error. It shows the reason before you have to wonder why nothing uploads.

Yellow logo

Red means the agent couldn’t start: most often, the dashkeep.dat configuration is missing from the memory card after a format or a card swap. The camera shows a restore screen with a QR code. Scan it to learn how to restore DashKeep on the device, or see Download to SD card, advanced to rebuild the file yourself. The camera keeps recording either way.

Red logo on the restore screen

During an upload session, two small additions appear over your camera feed: a thin progress bar along the top edge of the screen, and a small Wi-Fi symbol next to the corner logo. The symbol is orange while the camera connects, green while footage uploads, and red if the session fails. It blinks once a second while footage uploads. A failed session shows a steady red symbol, and the bar stops, red, at the point of failure. There is no text or panel. See How an upload starts for when these sessions happen.

The logo appears whenever the agent runs. No logo at all means the agent isn’t running, and the camera works as a plain dashcam without any DashKeep features. This can happen if the install didn’t complete, or if the manufacturer’s own firmware update overwrote the DashKeep patch. Use the Reinstall DashKeep button on the device settings page to fix it. The walkthrough is on Reinstall and update.
