Home zones

Home zones are the geofenced areas where the camera switches on its Wi-Fi, ready to back up footage. A zone marks a place where a known Wi-Fi network is in range. The camera only uses Wi-Fi inside your zones.

Search for an address, adjust the radius with the slider, and add the zone to the device. Removing a zone from the device doesn’t delete it from your account, so you can reuse it on another dashcam.

Manage zones from the device settings page.

The home zones card has a dropdown for what the camera should do with clips recorded inside your zones:

  • Upload clips recorded inside my home zone. The default. Clips inside your zones back up like any other footage.
  • Skip clips from my home zone. Clips recorded inside a selected zone never upload. The camera marks them as skipped and moves on, so backup windows finish sooner, your home Wi-Fi (or the hotspot’s mobile data) carries only the footage that left the zone, and the clips that matter reach the cloud faster.
  • Skip clips from my home zone, except locked clips. The same skip, but clips the camera or you protected still upload. An impact while parked at home is exactly what a dashcam is for, so the evidence goes up with the trip it belongs to.

Footage stays on the SD card either way. The skip only stops the upload.

How the camera decides “inside”: it reads the GPS trail of the drive each clip belongs to. A clip recorded with no GPS fix at all, in a garage for example, follows the camera’s last known position. A drive that only passed through the zone keeps its trip: the in-zone clips are absent and the rest upload normally. A drive that happened entirely inside a zone has nothing left to show, so no empty trip appears in your list.

Two things worth knowing before you switch it on:

  • The policy only applies to zones that are on the device.
  • The skip is permanent. Changing back to Upload clips recorded inside my home zone does not re-upload clips that were already skipped, only clips recorded after the change. Clips that made it to the cloud before you changed the setting stay there.

The dropdown needs at least one zone on the device. It has no effect without one.

Changes reach the camera at its next check-in, like every settings change. See Saving changes.
