Protected and deleted clips

A protected clip, shown as locked, escapes the rolling 12-hour window. The cloud keeps it until you delete it yourself. Lock the clips that matter to you. Pick Protect from the More controls menu. The dialog asks Protected footage cannot be deleted by people the device is shared with. Protect just this clip, or every clip in the trip? The This clip and Entire trip buttons choose the scope. Unprotect reverses it in the same way. The dashcam protects incident footage on its own. A parking bump keeps its footage past the quota for the same reason.

A deleted clip leaves a tombstone: the filename struck through, the row dimmed, and a cloud-off icon. You can’t play it back. Hovering over it shows the reason: either “You deleted this clip” or “Removed to free storage space.” The second message appears when the rolling storage quota evicted the clip. Tombstones aren’t playable, because the footage no longer exists.

Deleting is deliberate and confirmed. The clip row menu’s Delete clip asks Delete this clip? This cannot be undone. Delete trip warns that unprotected clips in the trip go with it, while protected ones remain.
