Community Edition

DashKeep Community Edition is the self-hosted plan. Your dashcam uploads to your own S3 bucket instead of DashKeep Cloud. DashKeep never receives any of your footage. The website reads your trips straight from your bucket, in your browser.

An S3 bucket is a storage container you rent from a cloud storage company. Amazon S3 and Cloudflare R2 are the most common providers. You create the bucket, you own its keys, and you can open it with your provider’s own tools at any time.

  • Your footage is yours. Every upload goes to a bucket you rent, under keys you control. DashKeep doesn’t keep a copy of it.
  • You pick the region. Your bucket goes in the country you choose. Your footage remains inside a data centre you picked on purpose.
  • The window doesn’t apply. DashKeep’s 12-hour rolling window and the archive don’t exist here. Your bucket keeps every upload until you delete it yourself.

The camera side is identical. Your dashcam runs the same agent, with the same home zones, the same Wi-Fi handling, the same status logo, and the same self-updates. The setup wizard is the same too, right up to the payment step.

The website looks the same as well. You get the dashboard, the trips page, and the player with its speed and map overlays.

  • After you pay, you connect a bucket of your own. Connecting your device walks you through it.
  • A storage password unlocks the trips page. It’s not your DashKeep account password. See Viewing your footage.
  • The trips page hides the delete and unlock buttons. Your bucket is the record, and you manage the files with your provider’s own tools.
  • Storage changes take one extra step. The setup pairing between your browser and the camera is one-time, and a fresh pairing must come first. See Changing or resetting your storage.
