Connecting your device

After you pay for Community Edition, the wizard sends you to the device’s settings page. The last setup step is the Your storage card there, and it waits until you’re ready.

Finish in the same browser you paid in. The setup needs a one-time link between that browser and the device, and the link exists only there.

Select Set up your S3 storage, then fill in the details from Setting up a bucket:

  • the endpoint, the bucket’s web address. It must start with https and include the bucket name, like https://s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/your-bucket-name,
  • the bucket name, the same one as in the endpoint,
  • the access key ID and the secret access key from your provider.

Select Test connection before you save. Your browser writes a small test file to the bucket, reads it back, then removes it. A wrong key or a missing sharing rule shows up here, while it’s still easy to fix.

The password field comes next. This isn’t your DashKeep account password. It’s a fresh password that seals your bucket’s keys. Your browser encrypts the keys with it before anything reaches DashKeep. The server receives the sealed copy and can’t open it. Nobody can recover the password for you. Write it down somewhere safe.

The card shows your key pair one last time. Copy it into your password manager. The keys never appear again.

If you leave Remember the password on this browser ticked, that browser unlocks the trips page on its own from now on. Other browsers still ask.

The camera collects the keys at its next check-in. That’s the next boot, or the next Wi-Fi window inside a home zone. The camera then uploads every trip and clip to your bucket, and your trips appear on the website as it connects. See Viewing your footage.

The link between your browser and the device is one-time. If the card reports that the browser already used the setup key, regenerate the device key with Download to SD card, advanced. That flow hands your browser a fresh key. Continue with the steps on Changing or resetting your storage after the card swap.
