Sharing a device

You can share a device with other DashKeep users. Sharing is invite-only: you send an invite by email, the recipient accepts while signed in with that address, and only then do they see the device.

Open the device’s settings page and scroll to the sharing card. Enter the person’s email address, tick the access you want them to have, and select Send invite. They receive an email with an accept link, and if they don’t have an account yet, the same link gets them through sign-up first.

The grants you can give, in layers:

  • View all footage: watch every trip and clip, and make their own annotations.
  • Download clips: export or download footage.
  • Protect clips: lock and unlock clips, including the incident footage the camera protected itself.
  • Delete clips: remove footage.
  • Make public links: publish clips to vdash.cam and manage the passwords on their own links.
  • Share with others: invite further people, never with more access than they hold themselves.
  • Change settings: edit the device’s settings page.

The sharing card lists everyone with access, active and pending, with each person’s grants. You can resend or revoke an invite before the recipient accepts it. You can revoke an active share at any time.

Someone you shared with can also leave on their own from the details card on the settings page. When they leave, they lose their access, and getting back in needs a fresh invite.

Device sharing is for people you trust with your footage. For everyone else there are public clip links: from the trips page, the player’s More controls menu has Share link. It creates a copy of the clip, or a trimmed section of a trip, with a vdash.cam address you can hand out, protected with a password if you want. See Exporting and sharing clips for the full walkthrough.

Shared devices appear on the other person’s dashboard with a “shared with you” badge, and their trips page works the same as for an owned device. What they can do is exactly the grants you gave them, nothing more: the interface hides every button they don’t have the right to use.
