Memory card errors
Messages like Card Slow on the camera’s screen come from the camera’s own firmware, not from DashKeep. The firmware tests the card and shows a message when the card can’t keep up with recording at the moment it checked. DashKeep can’t read that state, so these messages won’t appear in your logs or on the dashboard.
What causes it
Section titled “What causes it”- The card isn’t built for dashcam duty. Recording writes to the card around the clock. Cards sold for dashcams are made to survive it; ordinary cards slow down or wear out early.
- A worn or counterfeit card. Fakes and low-endurance cards often pass the first weeks and start throwing errors once real wear shows up.
- A messy file system. Long stretches without a format can leave clutter behind that slows card access.
What DashKeep does about it
Section titled “What DashKeep does about it”- DashKeep never formats the card and never deletes your footage. The camera’s own loop recording does that.
- Uploads read footage off the card. While the camera records, DashKeep reads slowly so recording keeps priority.
- When the camera formats its card through its own menu, DashKeep steps aside and lets it finish. Your settings survive. See Formatting the SD card.
What to do
Section titled “What to do”- Format the card in the camera’s own menu. A clean format clears file system clutter and is safe with DashKeep installed.
- If messages keep coming after a format, the card itself is the likely cause. Restarting the camera clears the message for a while, but that doesn’t fix the card. Export a log and write to support, and mention when the message appears: while driving, while parked, or during uploads. That timing points to the cause.
- Replace the card if the errors continue. Use a high-endurance card from a reputable seller, then put DashKeep back on it: Replacing the SD card. Anything already uploaded is safe in the cloud.
