The camera won't connect

Work down this list, in order:

  1. Is the logo white, green, purple, or magenta? The agent is running. Red means a missing configuration: follow The logo turns red. No logo at all means the agent isn’t running: follow Launcher errors.
  2. Is the camera’s own Wi-Fi hotspot switched on? Open the camera’s Wi-Fi menu and turn its hotspot off. The camera’s own hotspot keeps the radio to itself, and DashKeep cannot connect while it runs. The camera remembers this setting across reboots, so it must be off once, not every drive.
  3. Is the camera in range of a saved network? The camera only connects to the Wi-Fi networks you added in setup. Check the Network tab in the advanced menu for networks in range.
  4. Did you change the router password? Remove the network from the settings page and re-add it, or fix the password, then reboot the camera.
  5. Is the network 2.4 GHz? Most dashcams can’t use 5 GHz-only networks. A dual-band router needs its 2.4 GHz band enabled.
  6. Has the camera got a GPS fix? After the first minutes on power, the camera connects when it counts as parked inside a home zone, and that check needs GPS. A camera on an indoor desk, in a garage, or anywhere without a view of the sky can stay offline indefinitely. Give it a windowsill or a spot outside, or turn on always-on Wi-Fi, which connects wherever the vehicle is.
  7. Did you swap or format the memory card? The camera keeps its configuration on the card. Rebuild it with Download to SD card, advanced.
  8. Is the camera parked inside a home zone, and for long enough? The camera connects when parked inside a home zone, or when it has protected clips to send. The yellow logo means it’s outside all your zones.

If you’re still stuck, save the logs: the file dashkeep-status.txt on the card carries the state of every Wi-Fi attempt, and dashkeep-wifi-failures.txt appears there on its own when connects keep failing. See Exporting logs.
