S3 mirror storage

A cloud device uploads to DashKeep first. When you configure an S3 mirror, the device also writes the same footage to your own S3-compatible bucket. If the cloud is unavailable or refuses a clip, the mirror still gets a copy. Each target has its own credentials.

The mirror is optional. A device without one works exactly as before.

You add the mirror from the device’s settings page, next to the Ultra HD Storage card.

Your device key seals the S3 credentials, so adding the mirror, changing it, or removing it regenerates the key. The settings page warns you first, then sends you straight to the download-to-SD flow:

  1. On the device’s settings page, open the S3 mirror storage card.
  2. Select Add S3 mirror. If a mirror is already configured, select Change S3 mirror or Remove S3 mirror instead.
  3. Read the warning. It says the device key changes, and that your camera won’t connect again until you replace the dashkeep.dat file on the SD card.
  4. Confirm. The page regenerates the key, downloads a new dashkeep.dat, and then opens the S3 credential form.
  5. Enter your S3-compatible endpoint, bucket, access key, and secret key, then save.

Follow the steps in Download to SD card, advanced to move the new file onto the card. Finish the swap the same day you start it. Until the new file is on the card, your camera can’t connect to the cloud.

What changes don’t need another download

Section titled “What changes don’t need another download”

Once you configure the mirror, ordinary settings saves don’t require another download. Name, icon, colour, home zones, Wi-Fi networks, always-on Wi-Fi, and the home-zone upload and connect policies all go to the device through the cloud configuration sync. The device merges them the next time it checks in. You only need to replace dashkeep.dat again when you add, change, or remove the S3 mirror itself, because that’s the one action that regenerates the device key.

Removing the mirror follows the same warning and download-to-SD flow as changing it. After the new dashkeep.dat is on the card, the device uploads to the cloud only, and your bucket keeps every file it already received.
